About

The folks at The Dappled Planet are mystified by the antics of some people who call themselves ‘Environmentalists’ or “Eco-crusaders or Ecovangelists’ and other similar names. Why are we mystified? Because in this day and age, they seem to be obsesesed with one thing only: reducing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.

Now, its not that we don’t agree with that, but some of the solutions being proposed are more harmful for our little blue, white and green dappled planet than the actual problem itself! Has our fragile environment become the scape-goat for the human guilt complex over burning fossil fuels?

Here at the Dappled Planet, we aim to point out the flaws of the single-minded global warming fanatics, while at the same time extolling the good ideas out there which do allow us to work towards a sustainable future, living on a planet of many interlinked environments. To that end, we tend to favour the following:

  1. Any clean technology which doesn’t rely on plant material in any way, shape or form (ie fossil fuels, biofuels) - fossil fuels are on their way out, quicker than previously thought due to increasing deman, so lets stop investigating stopgap measures and get on with finding new, clean ways to meet the world’s energy needs!
  2. Any solution which does not do more harm to the environment than the original problem
  3. Anything which minimises man’s impact on the environment
  4. Anything which works towards man creating a sustainable relationship with the environment
  5. Anything which assists in recycling
  6. Acceptance of the global community that our energy needs are not going to come from one source anymore (ie fossil fuels) and some sources are better than others
  7. Acceptance from the global community that with today’s population and energy demands, we may have to take some steps to generate enough energy (and security measures) which are unpalatable to western thinking (e.g. nuclear) to sustain our current level of living.
  8. Anyone who will invent a way to convert our cars for less than $2000 into beasts with the same (or more) driving range - and doesn’t run on plant-derived fuels. Failing that, given the proximity of the editor to the north pole, global warming is encouraged so cycling during winter becomes an option…

That seems like a good enough start for now… Just a dose of common sense!
